Rich Blecher
Rich Blecher spent twenty years as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, deploying an astonishing thirty-nine times. While he navigated the demands of military life, his steadfast and understanding wife held down the home front, raising their three children. After retiring in 2010, Blecher found an unexpected passion for storytelling when his son invited him to join a mini book club—just the two of them, reading and discussing sci-fi novels. For the first time, he discovered an ability to focus on books in a way he never could in his youth.
In 2015, a sudden layoff pushed him into uncharted territory. After sending out dozens of job applications with little success, he stumbled across an article about self-publishing on Amazon. Curious, he sat at his laptop, determined to craft a short story. Days later, he found himself staring at over 30,000 words, and by the time he finished, the manuscript had nearly doubled in length.
Reality hit when he hired a professional editor—his high school English teachers, he realized, must have awarded him C’s out of pity. But through the grueling process of revision, he learned the craft and, in December 2021, published Xima. The moment his box of printed books arrived, he knew he had stepped into a new chapter of his life.
Blecher continued exploring different genres, refining his voice, until his beta readers declared Jenna Slade his best work yet. He made sure it was polished to perfection, and when Jenna Slade – Enemy Within released in December 2024, the reviews were nothing short of stellar. The boy who once hated reading and writing had defied all expectations, proving that sometimes, the best stories are the ones we never expect to write.

2. What inspired Rich Blecher to start writing?
Rich had always been proud of his vivid imagination—the way he could picture entire scenes in his mind had served him well throughout his military career. From a young age, he had worked tirelessly, beginning at just ten years old. But at fifty, he suddenly found himself at a crossroads, unemployed and uncertain about what came next.
One morning, with a warm cup of coffee in hand, he sat down, opened his laptop, and began to type. Without hesitation, the story of Xima began to unfold. The words flowed effortlessly, his fingers flying across the keyboard—he was grateful for that high school typing class that had gifted him the ability to type 75 words per minute. Even then, his thoughts raced ahead, faster than his hands could keep up.
Each day, he poured 3,000 to 5,000 words onto the page, allowing the story to take shape, guiding him on an unexpected adventure. He didn’t always know where it was leading, but that was part of the magic. And in that moment, he discovered something profound—sometimes, new beginnings come in the most unexpected ways.
